The German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) and the Rhineland-Palatinate Technical University of Kaiserslautern-Landau (RPTU) are pleased to receive the funding notice for the national 6G transfer hub Open6GHub+.

The funding notice was presented on February 17, 2026, during a ceremonial event in Berlin by the Federal Ministry for Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR). On behalf of the Open6GHub consortium, Hans Schotten—professor at DFKI and the Rhineland-Palatinate Technical University of Kaiserslautern-Landau (RPTU) and coordinator of the hub—accepted the grant notice.

Effective January 1, 2026, the national 6G transfer hub Open6GHub+ has launched. It builds on the successful predecessor project Open6GHub and, in the new phase, focuses on transferring research results into industrial applications, standards, and markets. The project is funded by the BMFTR as part of the German 6G program, thereby implementing a key component of its national 6G strategy. During the ceremony in Berlin, the central importance of modern communication technologies as the strategic backbone of a digitalized society was discussed as a key topic. In addition, there was in-depth discussion of the challenges posed by the global security and industrial policy situation, as well as the role of 6G technologies for Germany’s and Europe’s technological sovereignty.

DFKI coordinates the Open6GHub+ consortium and, within the project, focuses on integrating AI into the entire 6G ecosystem: from AI-supported network operations and language models for intuitive use to digital twins of networks and production facilities.
