Open6GHub+ structures application-oriented research along clearly defined missions. Each mission addresses specific technological, societal and regulatory challenges and aims to translate research results into measurable progress and sustainable impact.
The success of future generations of mobile communications depends crucially on appropriate regulatory frameworks. We develop scientifically sound foundations for assessing electromagnetic fields (EMF), using spectrum resources efficiently, and ensuring the security and resilience of future 6G networks. In doing so, we support a sovereign European position in international regulatory and standardization bodies.
Innovations need to be tested and validated at an early stage. We are therefore developing an open, modular testing and evaluation platform for future Radio Access Network (RAN) technologies. This environment enables research institutions and industry partners to jointly develop and compare new approaches and evaluate them under realistic conditions.
Private mobile networks are becoming a key building block of the digitalized economy. We develop open, modular, and scalable 6G campus networks that meet the needs of industry, logistics, research institutions, and public-sector operators. Our goal is to create practical reference architectures and blueprints for the widespread deployment of sovereign 6G networks.
Modem and chip technologies form the foundation of future communications systems. To reduce strategic dependencies, we develop concepts and roadmaps for an intelligent European 6G radio modem. At the same time, we foster an open innovation ecosystem that brings together research, industry, and technology providers.
Energy supply, transportation, healthcare, and public safety depend on highly available communications networks. We research resilient 6G networks designed to operate reliably even under extreme conditions, during natural disasters, or in the event of widespread disruption, thereby safeguarding the operational capacity of critical infrastructure.
The future of communications does not end at the horizon. We research integrated 3D network architectures that connect terrestrial mobile networks, airborne platforms, and satellite systems. Our goal is to provide seamless, reliable, and global connectivity for people, machines, and digital services.
6G will create new opportunities, but also new attack surfaces. We therefore develop test environments, security concepts, and assessment methods that enable the trustworthiness of future communications systems to be analyzed and validated in a transparent manner. In doing so, we lay the foundation for secure digital infrastructure.
The complexity of future communications systems requires new forms of automation. We research how generative and hybrid AI approaches can support the operation, optimization, and evolution of networks. Our goal is to create adaptive, efficient, and largely self-organizing 6G systems.
6G will enable new forms of digital services that understand their surroundings and adapt dynamically to users and situations. We develop open frameworks and development platforms to efficiently design, test, and deploy such context-aware applications in real-world settings.
