ESPARGOS – A passive WiFi antenna array

13.11.2024
At the Berlin 6G Conference, the Institute for Telecommunications at the University of Stuttgart presented its affordable WiFi Channel Sounder “ESPARGOS”, a passive antenna array.
It can be used for WiFi-based positioning based on channel diagrams, human behavior detection, sensing or power/channel modeling, among other things. “ESPARGOS” was developed as part of the Open6GHub project.
The aim of the setup at the conference was to make electromagnetic waves visible: The spatial power spectrum of the transmitter was superimposed on a camera image recorded by a webcam on the antenna array. By moving the transmitter, visitors could observe the parallel movement of the overlay and see how it changed with different transmitter positions.
