Recap of the Berlin 6G Conference – Shaping the Future Together

From June 30 to July 3, 2025, Berlin became a central hub for visionaries from research, industry, and politics at the 6G Conference – a forward-looking event focused on the next generation of mobile communication. We look back on four days filled with innovation, international exchange, and technological excellence.
Monday, June 30 – Setup & Preparations
The conference kicked off with the setup of our exhibition booth and final testing of live demonstrations – laying the foundation for a successful showcase in front of a distinguished audience.
Tuesday, July 1 – Official Opening & Global Perspectives
The conference was officially opened by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Hans Schotten, Coordinator of Germany’s 6G Platform.
State Secretary Mr. Jungk (Federal Ministry for Research, Technology and Space) set the political tone with an inspiring opening message.
Industry and cybersecurity perspectives followed in keynote speeches by Peter Merz (Nokia) and Thomas Caspers (BSI).
A highlight of the day was the international dialogue, featuring key contributions from Masayuki Matsui (Japanese MIC) and Jasper Pandza (UK DSIT).
The exclusive VIP tour hosted by the BMBF provided high-level guests with first-hand impressions of cutting-edge technology.
The evening keynote session, led by Dr. Tina Klüwer and Prof. Antonio Krüger (CEO, German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence – DFKI), emphasized the vital role of AI and innovation for Europe’s digital future.
Wednesday, July 2 – International Cooperation & Strategic Vision
Day two began with opening remarks by Prof. Gerhard Fettweis (6G Platform) and continued with expert insights from global leaders:
Prof. Tokuda (NICT) highlighted the importance of global collaboration, Magnus Frodigh (Ericsson) showcased how close we already are to 6G, Christina Gessner (Rohde & Schwarz) offered practical implementation strategies, Jean Schwoerer, PhD (Orange), spoke on network evolution beyond 2030, and Colin Willcock (6G-IA) shared perspectives on European funding strategies.
Led by Prof. Thomas Magedanz, the session “6G for All” focused on inclusive, accessible 6G for society at large.
A key milestone of the day was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Prof. Schotten (6G Platform Germany) and Dr. Nakao (XG Mobile Promotion Forum), marking a new chapter in German-Japanese 6G cooperation.
Thursday, July 3 – Closing & Outlook
The conference concluded with a powerful keynote by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Hans Schotten, reaffirming the central role of 6G in driving digital transformation in the years ahead.
